Mesi serves as chairman
By Dave Ricci
April 24, 2003
Town of Tonawanda boxer Baby Joe Mesi is once again lending his support to a local charity. Mesi will serve as the honorary chairman of the Center Stage, AIDS Family Services annual theatrical benefit.
The event will be held on May 3 at the Kavinoky Theater in downtown Buffalo.
Along with Mesi, Channel 2 news anchors Maryalice Demler and Scott Levin will be on hand to serve as co-hosts.
A performance of the classic comedy Arsenic & Old Lace will be one of the highlights of the function.
Pre-theater festivities include a gourmet dessert reception and an auction of unique art objects, antiques and collectibles that were donated by local businesses.
AIDS Family Services provides counseling, pastoral care and education for people living with AIDS. Proceeds from Center Stage will support these programs.
For tickets to this event or to find out more about AIDS Family Services, call 881-4612.
On the boxing scene Team Mesi is working with promoter Tony Holden on a card that will be held in Buffalo this June. The tentative date and location at this point in time is June 5 at HSBC Arena.
Some people felt the fall out from Mesis legal struggles with Sugar Ray Leonard would cause other promoters to be wary of doing business with Team Mesi. But Jack Mesi pointed out while things are going well for Joe SRL Promotions seem to be the ones who are stagnating since there have not been any announcements or evidence of Leonard being bringing any new fighters into his stable.
